Mijn Kitchen:
I love coming here early afternoon for lunch and soaking in the sun. I usually get a burger and broccoli salad. Followed by dessert or a milkshake. Its a good place to just people watch. Folks come here for business lunches, family time, casual reading, and just to lounge in one of the nicest gardens in Blantyre. Not an extensive menu but everything is prepared with A1 service.
Average cost per person $15-20 or 15,000 kwacha
Kris Star Lodge:
I enjoy coming to Kris Star because its the closest place to my house but it also offers a stellar site for viewing the sunset. Their chicken wings are the best in Malawi and their Chambo ‘fish’ is the 2nd best I’ve tasted in the country. The cost is super affordable
Average cost per person $6 or 5000 kwacha

Hosteria
Hosteria is an Italian style restaurant that uses local fresh ingredients. It really has set itself apart for me as the premiere dining spot in Blantyre. I generally stick with the Cristos Mari y Monti pasta but I dabble into pizzas and the daily special. For dessert I always stick with the crepe with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce.
Average cost per person $20 or 15,000 kwacha

Kwaharaba Cafe:
This spot has really good coffee, smoothies, pizza, salads, and burgers. For me there honey roasted chicken with a pineapple slice is clutch. They also have superb vegetarian options. Every Wednesday there is is the poetry/spoken word night that draws an eclectic crowd.

Protea Hotel & 21 Grill
I like coming to the Protea Hotel on Sundays for brunch buffet ( I’ve had 5 plates of food and they didn’t look at me crazy). They have a band that performs light soothing music while having a great selection of food to chose from… On the same property is the restaurant 21 grill. They have the best table service in all of Blantyre. Im not gonna lie the food and drinks here is pricey (this is a spot you go to treat yourself or someone special), sometimes the portion sizes are unsatisfying (appetizers) but the meals and the experience is worth it. I enjoy it here because the flavors remind me of a meal that I would get at home and the atmosphere invites engaging conversations.
Average cost per person $25- $40 or 20,000- 30,000 kwacha
Gelatos
Another one of my favorite go to spots. On the first floor is the bakery. I like coming here for pastries, rottie, samosas, gelato, ice cream and red velvet cake. If I want a quick snack I always stop by here to see whats on display. If I have more time to dine in I go upstairs to the second level. They have a nice contemporary feel in this space but be mindful that the outside its also a family oriented restaurant. They have a small train and inflatable bouncy house. I come here for fajitas, stir fry, and pizza mostly but to my surprise have even had sushi. They have probably the most diverse menu in Blantyre.
Average cost per person $4 – $10 or 3000 – 8000 kwacha
